With about 1.7 billion members and growing, Islam is the second largest religion in the world. Now, you can understand Islam and its complex relationship with Christian theology.

In Christian and Islamic Theology, you will deepen your own Christian theological reflection by examining the ways Islam addresses Christian teaching. In doing so, you will seek to remember what Blessed John Paul II described as the “role of the Holy Spirit in the process by which knowledge matures into wisdom” (Fides et Ratio, 44).

Your guide for this insightful examination is Prof. Gabriel Said Reynolds (Ph.D., Yale University), a Catholic expert on Muslim-Christian relations and professor at the University of Notre Dame. Through 21 thorough and enlightening lectures, you will learn about the history, teachings, and theology of Islam.

In this course, you will examine Islamic works, from the Qur’an to twenty-first-century Islamic apologies, which address Christian theology. First, you will explore the development of Islamic thought on Christianity in the Qur’an and influential Islamic works of the classical period. You will then see how Christians responded to the challenge posed by the new religion. Finally, you will ask how Christians—concerned for the proclamation of their faith and harmonious dialogue between religions—might think of the Church’s relationship with Islam today.

Very sensitive and timely
Quality
Given our national and international concern with Jihadists like ISIS, I found two studies on Islam and Christianity and the Bible & the Koran to be very sensitive and timely. Prof. Gabriel S. Reynolds is an excellent scholar of these programs. These studies enter in a very important discussion about similarities and differences between two world religions. I leaned much
Quality
I had read several books about Islam and this course gave me more insights than any of them. I highly recommend it. Review by Bob (Posted on 11/1/2015)
Reynold's presentation on Christianity and Islam is a huge contribution to understanding among faiths.
Quality
Given national ignorance and fear regarding Islam, the Reynolds presentation on Christianity and Islam is a huge contribution to understanding among faiths. Review by John (Posted on 9/4/2015)
Presentation is lively and intelligent!
Quality
The presenter is obviously very competent. His presentation is lively and intelligent. His Catholic faith shines through. He makes a great effort to be even-handed. This is truly a scholarly presentation by a first-rate teacher. Review by Fr. Michael (Posted on 9/4/2015)
Objective and most informative.
Quality
To be truly "Catholic" we need to be aware of other traditions from a fair and respectful perspective. We are living in a global village, and we need to know the neighbors...! Objective and most informative, this program not only presented Islam, but contrasted it with Christianity fairly and honestly. Review by Carla (Posted on 9/4/2015)
clear, new learnings in every lesson
Quality
I listen to a lot of these courses, and this was the best I heard this year. Dr. Reynolds is clear, answers the kind of questions I have about Islam, and most of the information was basic but new to me. The information could be summed as "What would be most important for a Christian to know about Islam." Review by tk (Posted on 8/14/2013)
