What attracts you to Thomas Merton? Why does this monk continue to inspire millions, across faiths? How does Merton speak to you and your spiritual journey?

In this insightful course, you will explore Merton’s remarkable life, powerful writing, and deep spiritual wisdom. And if you’re like some of us, you will find in Merton a lifelong friend and mentor.

Through these 12 presentations, you will have the opportunity to get to know Thomas Merton and actively develop a relationship with him.

Thomas Merton struggled with questions about God’s existence, moral values and the place of organized religion in his early years. His path to conversion was complex and bumpy. There are many tools that Merton used to aid his spiritual growth, such as journaling, poetry, letter writing, photography, and art. As you study Merton in this course, you will be invited to move out of your head through the use of some of these same tools to enter more deeply into your own experience with the mystery of God. The free study guide accompanying this course is designed to help you through this experience.

Let Merton challenge and inspire you. A man who struggled, stumbled, and questioned up to the very end of his life, Merton’s experience and writings as presented in this course will help you on your spiritual journey. You will not be disappointed.

Extraordinary introduction to Thomas Merton
I was curious to know about Thomas Merton and liked the description of this course. I didn't understand how I could develop a relationship with him by following the course, but all I can say is that at the very end of the last lecture, when the author refers to the moment of his death, I cried. Then I realized I really appreciated him personally, and recognized the excellent presentation of Father Ciorra. Now I am reading the two books he highly recommended. Thank you for offering this great course! Review by Frank (Posted on 9/28/2012)
