The Christian Contemplative Tradition explores key themes in spiritual theology from a Catholic perspective. It draws on the spiritual masters as well as core truths of the Catholic faith to elucidate our experiences of prayer, darkness, faith, hope and love.

Fr. Donald Goergen, O.P., helps you appropriate the spiritual wisdom of centuries passed so that you might deepen your interior life and relationship to God. His expert guidance will prepare you to face the challenges presented by our world and Church today.

Topics such as Word and Sacrament, friendship and justice, joy and sadness are grounded in our innermost yearning for the living God. Contemplation is understood not as something for monks and nuns alone, but also as the natural culmination of life with Christ.

We are all called to be contemplative, and in fact the promotion of a more contemplative consciousness has become an important social ministry for our times. We are in need of a profoundly Catholic, genuinely integral spirituality, which takes from our treasure both what is old and what is new (Mt 13:52). There are many ways of becoming contemplative and these spiritual talks will assist you in exploring what it means to live in the Spirit, give one's life to Christ, or live out of one's innermost and truest self.

Spring Survey: April 2017
I like the segments of this and other programs. 20-30 minutes is just right. Fr. Goergen provides an excellent overview of Christian spirituality while not getting to deep into theological babble. I've used it for retreat twice since I first obtained it and imagine I may use it again. I've lent it to other who have also enjoyed the presentations. Winter Survey: January 2017
Fr Goergen gives a thorough overview of contemplation and the contemplative life. If you have a serious prayer life, this audio set is a must have. I love that he ends each section with a prayer, a chime and a moment of silence. It gives you time to absorb his words, hold them in your heart. Review by H.K. Dunn, Florissant, MO, USA (Posted on 1/1/2017)
Consistently anchoring
I initially used this program for a private retreat. Since then I've listened to it on longer driving trips as it is consistently anchoring for me. Review by Patricia (Posted on 10/19/2016)
Never boring
I loved the balance of pace of phrasing, lyrical-ness of thought and authentic but expressive articulation... never boring or overly repetitive tone from this thoughtful speaker. Review by Laurie (Posted on 10/19/2016)
I appreciate the quality of the delivery by Fr. Goergen, clarity, engagement, and content. These sessions contain a inspiring reflection on a specific element Christian spirituality which makes each talk a perfect aid in one's private retreat or spiritual development effort.
