Until 1970, the Vatican had never recognized a woman as a Doctor of the Church. Today there are four: Teresa of Ávila, Catherine of Siena, Thérèse of Lisieux, and Hildegard of Bingen. Explore their fascinating stories today, letting their examples inspire and guide you.

Despite living in different countries, centuries, and cultural contexts, the four women Doctors of the Church are boundless sources of wisdom and faith.

Now, you can understand each woman’s powerful theology, letting her spirituality guide your own life. As you explore the historical context that gave rise to their ideas, you will learn how to retrieve aspects of their theological thought in a critical and relevant way today. In these 12 lectures, you will see how their unique voices illustrate models of holy, complex, intelligent, and passionate Christians.

In meeting these women, you will see how their wisdom integrates theology and spirituality; doctrine and mysticism; contemplation and action; head and heart; theory and everyday life. Including women’s perspectives in the Church helps us broaden what we understand by “theology” and reminds us that all Christians are invited to be theologians.

Discover new depths of the Christian theological tradition with Hildegard, Catherine, Teresa, and Thérèse.

This is about the four women doctors of the church. Their place in history and their personal spirituality were presented in depth. Much information - a course that requires more than one listening. Review by Jean Crump, 20 Sharon Drive, Tonawanda NY 14150 (Posted on 10/24/2016)

This presented information not readily available as a whole elsewhere. Women Doctors of the Church. We watched this as a group and perhaps the way we did that (one session a month) made the presentation less positive. Review by Agnes Brien Frankford, DE, USA (Posted on 7/6/2017)
