This 12-conference audio retreat neatly folds an astute reading of Matthew’s Gospel into a powerful spiritual experience. Combining prayerful reflection, outstanding biblical scholarship, and an engaging presentation style, your guide, Fr. Felix Just, S.J., Ph.D., expertly tailors this retreat with the first book of the New Testament to deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Home to the famously complex Sermon on the Mount and the heartwarming story of the three Magi, the Gospel according to Matthew is fertile soil for interpretation. Biblical scholars tend to agree that, of the four, Matthew’s Gospel is the most outwardly concerned with portraying Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament—a fact that leads many to believe Matthew’s Gospel was written for a Jewish audience.

As you immerse yourself in the distinctive features of Matthew’s text, you will revitalize your faith through three methods of prayer:

  • reflective meditation,

  • imaginative contemplation, and

  • centering prayer.

A Retreat with the Gospel of Matthew is one in a series of retreats on the Four Gospels by Fr. Just—a Now You Know Media customer-favorite and an exceptional retreat leader by all standards. Centered on the first book of the New Testament, A Retreat with the Gospel of Matthew provides a logical starting point for those of you interested in Fr. Just’s sibling retreats with the Gospels of Mark, Luke, and John.

If you wish to grow closer to Jesus by spending some prayer time with scripture, you will cherish this series.

Loved it
Having attended bible study for years at my home parish in Calgary Canada I loved the fact that you focused on the understanding and perspective of the Jewish people of the time. Too often we do not see the significance of the teachings because we are so far removed from the listeners of our Lord's time.
