Writer, preacher, counselor, educator, pastor of souls- all of these descriptions and more have been aptly applied to John Henry Newman (1801-1890). Now, an additional title has been added to the list, which surpasses them all: "Blessed".
The beatification of John Henry Newman by Pope Benedict XVI - a step in the process of his being formally declared a saint - focuses attention on the extraordinary holiness and inner life of a man who spent most of his earthly years being misunderstood.
His trust in God and his willingness to seek and follow the truth with his whole heart and mind eventually convinced him to seek ordination as a Catholic priest. He spent the remaining forty-five years of his life in service to the Church, and his impact on Catholic faith and doctrine has endured and increased in the 120 years since his death.
Understand Catholic virtues by understanding John Henry Newman's life and theology. This course will relate Blessed John Henry's earthly and spiritual biographies, taking a particular look at the way that his intellectual and spiritual quest for the truth impacted him and others. Familiarity with the life and teaching of this "saint for our times" will help you to better understand your own journey of faith, and will introduce you to a powerful friend and intercessor for all those who seek to be faithful in serving God and his Church.
Join Fr. Philip Bochanski, C.O., M.A., on an inspiring journey through Blessed John Henry Newman's quest for faith. You will come away encouraged and invigorated by this man's patience, service and trust.
