Gain an insider’s understanding of the Roman Missal’s new translation. On the 1st Sunday of Advent in the U.S., and on other days in other English-speaking countries, Catholics will be hearing, speaking and praying with new words. This experience will open up new vistas into the heart of a mystery that is far more ancient than any of those same countries.
The prayers of the Roman Liturgy are the accumulated wealth of 20 centuries of worship. They have been celebrated and prayed by Fathers of the Church and Saints, by kings and paupers, by sages and sinners. This new translation has been prepared by our Bishops and approved by the Vatican in the shared conviction that it is far better to bring to Catholics in their own language the wealth that is already contained in these prayers than to try to re-write them anew.
But many of us have questions about what is changing and what these changes will mean for our worship and our Church. As a thoughtful Catholic, you have no doubt reflected on many of these questions yourself.
Join Monsignor Michael Magee, Chair of the Systematic Theology Department of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Pennsylvania, to explore the new translation of the Roman Missal. Msgr. Magee has observed the process of the new translation throughout its various stages from within the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. Through these talks, Msgr. Magee gives you a guided tour of the sacred texts that will unite our voices in the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for many years to come.
